Cracking MRCP Part 1 is not impossible, although it is extremely difficult and challenging. Having the MRCP degree in one's portfolio is a valuable addition. With the MRCP degree, a doctor can practice independently in the Gulf countries, Asian countries, and also in the United Kingdom. The General Medical Council (GMC) recognizes the MRCP degree and considers it one of the highest affirmations for skills, knowledge, training, and behaviour in a postgraduate specialty. Hence, the person can also practice in reputed hospitals in any part of India.
The
MRCP degree deals with core medical training, and is given equal status to the
MD degree in India. The MRCP exam has three parts. After becoming successful in
the MRCP Part 1 exam, a student can attempt the MRCP
Part 2 written exam and then MRCP Part 2 clinical (PACES).
MRCPPart-1 online courses are available to help students crack this entry level exam. In this part, a student's understanding of basic clinical sciences is evaluated. As a medical graduate, doctors attempting the MRCP Part 1 written examination are expected to have advanced knowledge of several specialties related to medicine. Moreover, a student's grasp of clinical sciences, commonly encountered diseases, prevalent diseases, and significant diseases (as mentioned in the UK curriculum) is also assessed in this exam.
MRCP Eligibility Criteria
Every
year, the MRCP exam is conducted four times in a single academic session. In
2023, the next MRCP exam will be held on 9th August 2023. Registration and
application will begin on May 29th and continue until June 5th, 2023. MRCP
exam eligibility includes medical employment for a minimum of 12
months after completing graduation, after MBBS or equivalent, from a medical
institute that is recognized by the General Medicine Council (GMC). Evidence in
the form of a certificate or other document of both the graduation degree and
medical employment must be presented online or sent if the application is made
offline.
Although
there is no definite MRCP preparation time, students
take months in order to prepare for the MRCP Part 1 written examination,
provided the student dedicates up to 5 to 6 hours a day to attending video
lectures especially created for cracking the MRCP exam, solving test papers for
MRCP, reviewing answers, getting concepts clear, and overcoming every learning
gap that comes along the way. Gold standard faculty, the MRCP experts, who are
associated with renowned medical learning platforms, are of the opinion that
consistent efforts are the key to cracking the MRCP exam in the first or second
attempt. Months of rigorous learning and practicing must be followed by at least
2 months of thorough revision.
At the
beginning of MRCP preparation, every sort of study
material must be collected. If a student has subscribed to a specialized online
course for getting guidance on MRCP, then the gold standard faculty will
suggest books to read for MRCP Part 1 and guide you for your preparation. There
are plenty of books available from different medical publications, but if you
have subscribed to a good course, be assured that the faculty will recommend
only the best ones among them that are effective for MRCP preparation and have
content given in a compact form.
After
obtaining the MRCP degree, a doctor can join a hospital and associate with a
particular medical department (like cardiology, respiratory medicine, etc.),
start his or her own private practice, engage in clinical research with the
intention of discovering new treatments and therapies related to medicine,
pursue high medical education, promote healthy living among the population,
associate with international organizations, and work in the field of medicine
globally.
